The world is changing in so many ways, it is hard to keep up!

Sadly, one thing that is not changing is chronic diseases. They are on the rise which makes my heart break since so many of them can be prevented through simple lifestyles changes!

Many of you know I had cancer, but I also live with a chronic disease called Crohn’s Disease. I have struggled with this for over 30 years. I have had surgery and have tried so many different medications and none of them have worked. My immune system has been severely affected so I made the decision to embark on a new journey. I started seeing an alternative medicine doctor and was recommended to go Gluten and Dairy Free. The reason is that these types of foods increase inflammation which is a problem when you live with Crohn’s Disease.

As you all know, change is difficult even when you are ready for it. It has been a learning curve for sure, but I am happy to say I am 2 weeks out and doing better with my Crohn’s symptoms. I love to cook and so I have been in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes! Some came out good, some, not so good but I am determined to make this my new lifestyle and take control of my Crohn’s Disease verses having it control my life!

This past week, I attended the Physician’s Committee International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine. The research studies that were presented solidified for me that I was on the right track. What they say is true…. food can either be the slowest form of poison or the greatest medicine. After watching many of the sessions, I made another decision. I am going to work towards eating 100%  plant based. Plant based eating significantly lowers risks of chronic disease, obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, Heart Disease, cancer, improves gut microbiome, immune system function, inflammation and so much more. I am super excited to be on this journey. Stay tuned for updates and some great recipes.

You may not have Crohn’s Disease but may be living and struggling with another chronic disease. If you are tired of having your disease control you, maybe it’s time for you to make a lifestyle change too! I am not going to say it will be easy, but I will say with certainty, it will be worth it! Progress not perfection are words I keep close when it seems hard, and I want to call it quits.
